Daniel Abrams joins ESAM Faculty

Professor Abrams has training in Applied Physics, Mechanics, and Applied Mathematics.  He comes to Northwestern after studying at Caltech and Cornell and doing postdoctoral research in Dan Rothman's C3 lab (Chaos, Complexity, and Cellular Automata) at MIT.  He has broad scientific interests ranging from coupled oscillators to mathematical geoscience to the physics of social systems.  Past research projects have included a mathematical model of language death, exploration of a new type of pattern formation, an explanation for a dangerous mode of vibration on footbridges, and a model for the formation of river valley networks on Earth and Mars.
