An NSF supported Research Traning Group project in Applied Mathematics was initiated in Fall, 2007. The project provides funding to support postdoctoral associates, graduate students and undergraduate students. Our RTG project emphasizes interdisciplinary research. RTG trainees work in interdisciplinary research teams involving ESAM faculty as well as senior faculty from other disciplines. The research areas are very broad, involving research in problems involving interfaces or multiple scales with application to problems in the life sciences, including microbiology and biological fluids, and in mechanics, including fluid dynamics, materials science and combustion.
